A little grasshopper found his way to a rather modern city compared to his rural village. This certain grasshopper wants to become someone worth remembering. Someone you can respect; someone who actually made a difference. His village is currently in a time of hardship. Famine and whatnots have been on the rise.

The little grasshopper's first stop in the city, was the city square. He figured that maybe the city square was somewhat like his village's meeting place. There, he found numerous personalities, and countless sights to behold. From there he could see rather tall buildings which made use of its surroundings to make great use of the sunlight. There were also other grasshoppers in the area, most of which, had a lot to do. Some were on their way to work, and some were just there being idle. He eventually found his way to one of the rather...friendlier looking grasshoppers.

Little grasshopper asked him if there was anything he could do to help a village in need, to which the friendly-looking grasshopper answered with "Oh, you probably need money. Tell you what, I'm actually very influential around here. What exactly is wrong?"

"I came here to look for a solution to the famine my village is experiencing. Have you ever felt like going against all odds, hoping to come out victorious? It's somewhat like that. I've never really done anything fruitful in my life. I was but a local boy looking for fun."
"Ah really now? How about you and I go get a drink? My treat."
"Sorry, your treat? What does that mean?"
"Oh, my bad. You're from somewhere else. Around here, you need money to buy things. Its probably not like in your village where everything is rationed I guess. My treat means I'm going to buy you the drink. I'm paying for it."
"Ah I think I understand. How kind of you. Shall we?"

So the two of them made their way to a family restaurant. The friendly-looking grasshopper ordered two Cokes. It was actually pretty entertaining how happy the little grasshopper was with his first time to drink Coke. They introduced themselves to one another. Little grasshopper said something about his being a normal person ignorant to most things in the world. The friendly-looking grasshopper has already gone to numerous places and apparently knows a lot about different things. He was also an actor in one of the small time theater companies around the city.

"A theater company?," asked the little grasshopper.
"Yes, does your village have any...hmmm, any traditional rituals or anything?," replied the friendly-looking grasshopper.
"Ah yes, we normally have a ceremonial dance once a year."
"Think of that ceremonial dance. Now add a story, like how that ceremonial dance made a couple find true love again."
"Oh so its like mixing a story with a ritual?"
"You're getting the idea. It doesn't necessarily have to be a ritual though. It could be anything"
"It sounds like fun."
"It is, want to try?"

With that, they finished their Cokes and headed to the theater.

The theater was actually just a small place. It could fit maybe 20 individuals. The company was actually comprised of around 7 grasshoppers. There was no roof in this place, just walls made out of twigs. The lighting depended on 2 rather eccentric looking grasshoppers who used leaves to control the sunlight.

The rest of the company had 4 actors, including the friendly-looking grasshopper(Who also happened to be the head) and a geeky grasshopper who wrote the scripts. They mostly did epics and legends, and tales of adventure and going against the impossible.

Fast forward to half a month later, the little grasshopper is little by little, learning the do's and dont's of theater. But even after practicing every single day there, he was never able to captivate the audience.

He didn't know what was wrong. He didn't even understand why the others were so special. In his mind, he thought he was a good performer. He went to the friendly-looking grasshopper for guidance.

The friendly-looking grasshopper was in the lounge sort of area of the theater. He was taking a break. The little grasshopper asked "What is it I need to do to be able to do something special?".

"Let me ask you something, what do you think makes a performer special?"
"Being able to openly express and portray the being he is playing?"
"No. He's there to sell a dream. Have you ever wondered why children's stories are loved by the people? Children have big dreams, and children's stories sell you that dream. For example you were a girl, wouldn't you be sold on the fact that each time you were in distress, your prince charming will come save you? Or how all of us will eventually find a way to live in the sky? Or that we even normal individuals like us can do the impossible? That is a performer."

With those words in mind, the little grasshopper left the room after thanking the friendly-looking grasshopper. He went on to think for himself.

"What do I want to do? I want to help my village. How do I do that? We cooperate with each other. How do I get them to do that? I'll need to lead the way. How do I do that? I have to appear confident. How do I act confident? I have to sell that dream."
I got the idea to sell dreams from Ninomiya Kazunari haha.

Little Grasshopper... 2?

Cool. I had less realistic idea about "selling dreams", haha.

Anyway, interesting story. Can't wait to read more. :D

I like it.
